A governance-focused course for executive, legislative, and judicial leaders navigating democratic institutions, public trust, and rule of law.

Course Overview

Democratic Governance is designed for leaders of arms of government including the executive members, legislators and senior judicial personnel. It explores essential questions regarding continuity and change on issues such as vote choice, political participation, public protest, trust in the political system, political attitudes and the rule of law. Special emphasis is placed on the relationship between the citizen, electoral outcomes and leadership.

Course Objective

  • Understand the principles and frameworks of democratic governance.
  • Analyze the roles and responsibilities of different arms of government.
  • Strengthen ethical leadership and accountability in governance.
  • Explore global and Nigerian case studies on democratic governance.
  • Enhance collaboration among institutions for effective policy development and implementation.
  • Understanding the basic Tenets of good, democratic government.

Expected Participants

Expected participants include Leadership and Members of Regional, National and State Houses of Assembly including ECOWAS Commission, ECOWAS Parliament; Ministers and Commissioners; Heads of MDAs; Director Generals; Permanent Secretaries; Executive Secretaries in Nigerian Public Services; Directors of Departments of MDAs; Chairmen and Chairpersons of Local Government Councils; Leaders of Civil Society Organisations; Leaders and Management of Non-Governmental Organisations; and Leaders of private corporations that interact regularly with government.
